New to the forum! I have a 99 Cherokee and am having an issue with my fog light switch. Both lights and switch are OEM original parts. The problem I am having is once the switch is turned on, after about 5 minutes the swtich is HOT!!! to the touch.

So hot in fact, it melts the inside of the switch. I am on my third switch in as many months and am tired of buying new ones.

Thought I might run this past you all before taking it somewhere. Any input is greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks

Resistance in vehicles can usually be traced to corroded connectors and or poor grounds. Your switch should be isolated from the heavy draw of the lamps by a relay. The switch should only be pulling the amount of power needed to activate the relay. The relay shunts the high load power from the battery to the lamps. Perhaps the relay is getting ready to retire. I would check all the conections assuring they are tight and clean, and also check that grounds are good clean and tight. Then check the relay.

Your other option would be to abandon the original wires and rewire the circuit through new wires and a new HD (Bosch or Hella) relay.
