Since a little kid I helped my dad fix the clunker cars that we had. But most of these were front wheel drive imports. Now that I got married I'm trying to familiarize myself with my wife's 98 Jeep Cherokee.

The RWD & Solid axles are a whole new ball game for me and I want to know what this line is for on the front axle housing:



It comes up through the engine bay and ends here:



What does this line hold? Fluid? Grease? What is that white piece at the end of the line? Some kind of Check Valve? The reason I ask is because it is slightly Shredded from the hanging too close to the front propeller shaft. And now there is a slight clicking when I turn left. Confused

Axel vent, It's up high to prevent water from getting into diff.
