A nasty 3-car accident over the weekend resulted in a Jeep Wrangler being hit head-on, bursting into flames, and a young woman dying. Tragic! This is the first time I've ever heard of a Jeep Wrangler burning up in an accident. Does anyone know if they're any more or any less prone to catching fire in a crash?

I have not heard any Jeeps burning after a crash of that sort.
But a couple months ago my wife was driving down our local "death road" ( the 138 in socal) and she saw a car cross over to opposing traffic and hit a Jeep head on causing it's occupents to be ejected on to the on coming car. Obviously the people in the Jeep were not wearing there seat belts and died.
The driver that crossed over fell a sleep at the wheel and walked away with only a broken arm. Crying or Very sad

I've seen a few over the years, but nothing out of the ordinary. Here in CA about 10 years ago or so when we switched over to MTBE, it seemed like I saw a few YJ's catch fire while driving but that was about it.

It was the chemical put into gas to raise the oxygen content and pollute less that ended up polluting the ground water instead.

I did get a new "repo" rear bumper for free from a buddy of mine...

MTBE also makes your gas mileage suffer. By oxygenating the fuel, it fools the computer in to thinking that the engine is running less fuel or running "lean", so the computer compensates by adding more fuel, causing you to buy more gas more often and put more pollutants in the air, now isn't that counter productive.
California's A.Q.M.D. (Air Quality Management District) should get there asses kicked for that move.

Let that be a lesson to you.. When you get tired and you are driving ...

If you dont want to pull over and rest.......... buckle up...
