My 98 XJ has a bug deflector that was on it when I bought it. It does nothing to deflect the bugs and all it seems to do is create a low pressure area in front of my windshield that makes my windshield washer worthless at highway speed and it covers up the Jeep logo on the front. I would take it off, but there is velcro stuck just in front of my hood that the deflector sticks to. I'm worried that if I won't be able to get the velcro pads off the front of my Jeep without ruining the paint. Here's my questions. Is there any reason to keep the deflector on? I've heard that it may help MPG or keep the paint on the front from chipping. Is there a way to remove the pads without damaging the paint. My normal concern with removing something that has been on an eight year old vehicle is that the paint around it may be faded and the paint under the pad has not. But since the pad is under the deflector, I don't think it has seen much sun and it shouldn't be a problem.

Remove the deflector. Get a hair dryer and warm up the velcro. It'll help loosen the adhesive. Then just peal it off. You can use some Goo Gone to remove and remaining residue. I'd wax the area then also.
