I am going to buy a 1992 Cherokee Sport tomorrow knowing that it needs a new manifold and exhaust. I also noticed a little oil seepage on the differentials so I will probably open them up and change the gear oil and gaskets. Anyway It runs strong with no appearant problems other than it will not pass the emissions test. I plan to get the parts from napa or one of the chain stores. Can I intall a new exhaust with clamps or must it be welded? The pictures on the napa web page do not look like there is a place for the o2 sensors. It will be a fun weekend. I am no mechanic, but bought this because I figured I could work on it and hope it will be way chaper to drive around town than my F250 diesel. I will take any suggestions out there.

You don't have to weld it...but for most emissions tests, there can't be any leaks or it will fail. Welding is the best way to ensure it won't leak. Clamps should work though.

I'm 95% sure that the 92 only has one 02 sensor. So, if you're getting an OEM replacement cat from NAPA, it should have the threaded hole for the 02.

Well I got all the parts and it loooks like it will be a long weekend. I just couldn't bring myself to buy a header for what I replaced the whole oem system for. I am sure it will haunt me in the future, but I am just cheap.

If the clamps leak and you don't want to weld it, you can try JB Weld. It takes a day to dry up good, but it's pretty awesome stuff. Mix it up and let it set up for about 20-25 minutes until it's thichened enough to spread without falling off on your arm.
