I've been looking at several sites, especially quadratec, my favorite to order parts from. I've been trying to figure out the main differences between the optima red, yellow and blue top batteries and I can't seem to find any significant differences other than the prices. Does anyone know the differences? thanks

They are all good batteries. But if you plan on using a winch get the yellow top (deep cycle) or blue top (marine deep cycle I think?). The red top will not be warrantied with use for a winch. I use the yellow tops in my Jeeps. Had a red top in the old SJ many years ago. Never had any problems with any of them.

Hope that helps.

Just going to toss in a warning about Optima.
I had read how good they are and decided to get one for my T-Bird(Jeep is the daily driver). This was about 14 months ago. I would start and run the Bird at least once a month, to keep the charge up. Reading how the Yellow Top is supposed to be ok with this, I was surprised to find the battery almost dead a few days ago. Jump started the car and found the battery not charging. It ran fine, so the alternator was ok, but no juice coming off the battery. Took it back to where I bought it, and it was completely dead. Zero volts. The guy at the store said he's seen a lot of Optimas coming in lately. Got a Bosch 750cca/1000ca replacement for $100 less.
Just my $.02...

The Optima yellow and blue tops are deep cycle batteries...meaning they are designed to be drained and recharged over and over. They don't do well in applications where this doesn't occur. That's where the red top should be used.
