Just curious.. i have a 95-01 XJ.. and i always wondered when you turn the key to 'on' there is this sound that comes from the engine compartment...like it's getting the engine ready.. i'm not much of a mechanic and i'm pretty new the tech part of jeep, so i wouldn't really know what it is...

Thanks.. Smile

Are you sure it's from the engine compartment, or could it be from the gas tank? When you turn the key to ON you can hear the fuel pump run and if you have the heater/AC in any position other than OFF you can hear some of the vent actuators doing their thing.

Yep sounds like the Fuel pump pressurizing the Fuel Rail.
