i want to install a set of auxillary lights on my 97 xj, but i don't want to put them on or around the bumper, or on the roof... i've seen pictures of them mounted near the sideview mirrors. i'm thinking i'll probably just use sheet metal screws to mount the brackets to the left and right of the cowl, but i was wondering if anyone has or knows of a better way to mount them in this general location, and/or a mounting kit or brackets available? thanks.

I've been thinking about this too. I don't want top mounts because they interfere with carrying canoes and kayaks on the roof rack. Bumper mounts always seem to get bent over.

What about 'cop spots' that mount through the A pillar? Are these available for the XJ??

I don't believe that there are any brackets specifically made to mount lights there on a Cherokee. I have seen people use CB antenna mount brackets to attach lights to their hood and I know antenna mounts can be put on by the mirrors. I don't know how durable these are so I doubt I would want to mount a spotlight that you would be moving around alot. If you do want a spotlight near your door you should look for the ones that are made for police vehicles- I saw a Cherokee with one of these from some government agency (it was marked but I don't remember which one it was) the last time I went through the Rockies.
