if I am working on the rear, is it fine to use my hitch as a jack stand point, one on either side of the hitch? i have an XJ buddy who says its stupid and not smart...i think its fine..but whts the answer

I would lean more in favor of your buddy. The trailer hitch is meant more for lateral strength, not vertical, so the strain of the entire rear-end sitting on it can't be good. I would stick to the frame or the axle.
