Hi all!
I have got a slight (damp) smell in my XJ. It seems (?) stronger after using the AC so I'm thinking that the cabin / coupe / pollen filter (what ever it's called) may need to be replaced?!

All the carpets seems dry and I have never seen any water stains or so. I also had a chat to the local service garage, they said that it may be that the filter needs to be replaced or that a AC system disinfection could also be needed.

- Do you guys have any experience from a disinfection if an AC system?
- Have you ever replaced a pollen filter and still had a smell if all the carpets are dry... ?
- Ever changed the filter your self, is it easy to do?

I do not know of any filters on these vehicles. I have seen some kind of fogger thing you spray into the intake of the a/c. You do want to make sure you do not have a leak. XJ's have a tendency to leak down inside of the firewall under the rug. Usually on the drivers side it seems. The rug is rubber underneath so it doesn't seep through but will make a musty smell and of course rusty floor boards. Peel it back and take a look on both sides.

Yep, my 99 leaks on the drivers side too. I found the leaks. I pulled the cowl screen off and the cowl vent packed full of the previous owners pine needles, leaves. I cleaned it out, and it didn't leak for a few weeks. Water was getting through the drivers door seal. It leaks during a heavy rain, otherwise it's dry.
